Even with the 2 hour delays, this was a busy week in 2nd grade! Teachers started testing DRA Levels (Reading Levels) of students in order to measure each student's growth of reading accuracy and comprehension. A letter will go home in the beginning of February with your student's reading level from the Fall and now. The second graders also completed their Winter SRI Test (Scholastic Reading Inventory) this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. After we get the results from that reading test, we will practice answering inference question with harder vocabulary words.
In Math, our class started a new unit on Time! Students were very excited to share what they remember from 1st grade and start exploring telling time to the 5 minutes and quarter hour. Here are some pictures of the first time explore time in our classroom. Each table group, created a hula hoop clock, then showed the time given with their hands inside the hula hoop.
Please reinforce telling time at home with your student, by showing your watch, phone, or clock and asking them about time! I hope you had a great long weekend celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.
