Wow! We had a busy, activity filled week! All 2nd graders went on a field trip to H.B. Owens Science Center in Prince George's County. We acted as paleontologists as we learned about dinosaurs and made our own seashell fossils! Students also dug through sand and rock to find a real tooth fossil which they took home! We will do more dinosaur research and activities this week in class.

While back at school, students discussed many different ways to represent a 3 digit number. Each student made a "number web" in an iPad App called, Popplet. Then they shared their web on Edmodo and commented on their classmates projects. Our students are being comfortable using the App in learning activities and sharing their results! Ask your student to log-on to Edmodo.com to show you their great work!

Dear Parents,

As we finished the Math Time Unit last week, students worked on a "Perfect Movie Day" project. First, they had to choose a time of a movie they wanted to see (listed on colored paper). Then, they wrote the time on an analog clock, described the time in words and explained if it was in AM or PM. Last, students wrote a story about their day at the movies.

This is a great example of how you can help students connect math problems to real-world situations. On Thursday, students took a...

Welcome to Quarter 3!

Your student is halfway through 2nd grade! Above is a picture of our Reading Data Wall. Each student updated their monkey with their new level. The left shows each student's reading level in October. The right shows each student's reading level in January. What improvement! Ask your student about their reading level and their new goal next testing in May.

Continue to make sure our child is reading for 20-30 minutes at home every night. After they read, ask them to "retell"...

Hello Parents!

This week went by quickly with only 4 days in school! Students continued to explore telling time as we played quiz games during the Warm Up on Thursday and Friday. You can see in the picture, students were given their own iPads to answer question shown on the board. Then the whole class can see who scored the highest by answering the most points the fastest! The students also logged onto Edmodo.com to post their learning and answer more Math quiz questions! Ask your student for ...

Even with the 2 hour delays, this was a busy week in 2nd grade! Teachers started testing DRA Levels (Reading Levels) of students in order to measure each student's growth of reading accuracy and comprehension. A letter will go home in the beginning of February with your student's reading level from the Fall and now. The second graders also completed their Winter SRI Test (Scholastic Reading Inventory) this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. After we get the results from that reading test, we will...

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school! We had a busy first week of 2015. Students reflected on their 2014 school year and made resolutions for this 2015 school year. We edited and shared our resolutions and wrote a final copy on a penguin. The picture shows the final penguins standing on ice "Sliding into a New Year." Everyone had fun decorating the penguin to make it different from others! Come visit the classroom to read our New Year's Resolutions outside Room 7.

Thank you to parents who gav...
